Film, TV and radio

The BBC picks up on some news from Tinsel Town – seems MTV are very interested in remaking 80s Michael J Fox flick Teen Wolf as a modern TV series. The original film was a light 80s-style comedy using the werewolf for both humour and a metaphor for growing up, bodily changes, family and being accepted by peers, as opposed to say other lycanthrope movies of that era like American Werewolf in London and The Howling which went more for the jugular (and indeed a variety of other body parts – most enjoyable!)

Michael J Fox Teen Wolf

MTV’s Liz Gateley commented that “It has more of an American Werewolf in Paris feel to it. It’s a dramatic thriller with two best friends in the centre who provide a great comedy element: They are two very relatable characters on the outer circles of popular cliques.” Which makes it sound like they want the humour but also more horror this time round. I wonder if the fact that there is a rather tasty looking new Wolf Man feature film on the way has prompted MTV’s interest in rebooting Teen Wolf now? According to the BBC article there’s something of an 80s land-grab going on in US TV at the moment, with even classic Brat Pack flick St Elmo’s Fire being considered for a series, as is the brilliantly wicked Winona Ryder flick Heathers. Hmmm.
