In the beginning Crumb sketched the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void so he added some graytones. And Crumb said let there be light and there was light. And Crumb saw that the light was good and divided it up using dark pens and brushes. And Crumb said let there be many pages bound together…

Yes, Robert Crumb has been tackling Genesis (the first book of the Bible, not the planet altering torpedo from Star Trek) for a while now, but On Panel has an update on the progress (the book is hoped to be finished and finally released late in 2009 by Norton), scouring various recent mentions of the work for signs and portents, including this quote from rcrumb.com: “This winter Robert hopes to complete the Genesis project. He’s on page 190 and has about 14 pages left, with the cover, introduction and various small pages related his agreement with Norton Publishers. It’s been an tremendous undertaking, and a commitment which has taken him four years to complete.”(via Boing Boing)
