Tokyo-based Boing Boing guest blogger Danny Choo posts on a facet of manga fandom I’d not heard of before and since our own Richard-san is on something of a manga kick this week on his Propaganda reviews I thought I’d post a link up to this practise of itasha (which Danny explains means ‘painful car’, presumably because it would be excruciating to be seen driving around in one, although apparently it can also mean Italian car, an interesting double meaning) whereby fans festoon their wheels with all sorts of manga paraphernalia, from character images on the bodywork to seat covers designed to make it look like the characters are inside the cabin and – yes, almost inevitably – there is the free use of girls panties:
(in case the drawn panties on the characters on the bonnet are too subtle for you this driver has added a pair of actual knickers to his number plate. Subtle and presumably a surefire draw to discerning ladies… Pic borrowed shamelessly from Danny’s site and his (c))
