As expected the late Heath Ledger has posthumously won the Supporting Actor gong at the BAFTAs tonight for his portrayal of the Joker in The Dark Knight (Oscar next?). Sadly Waltz With Bashir and Persepolis lost out; both were nominated in the Film Not in the English Language and Animated Film categories but neither landed the awards, with Wall-E scoring the Animated Film gong. Aardman’s new Wallace and Gromit, A Matter of Loaf and Death, won the Short Animation award. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button won several behind-the-scenes categories such as Make-up and Special Effects, but the relentless onslaught of Slumdog Millionaire ran rampant across the categories. Former Doctor Who star Noel Clarke won the public vote for the Rising Star award.
