London MCM Expo – tomorrow

mcm

The newest regular feature on the comic calendar kicks off tomorrow. London MCM Expo is a huge thing, concentrating more on pop culture and sci-fi movies and TV than comics – as evidenced by the very long list of personalities that regularly clutter up this sort of show (I took a look at the media guest list and was really struggling to recognise anyone until I got down to Tom Baker and Craig Charles). There’s also a huge Cosplay event here, much loved by all of those taking part and similarly loved (albeit for different reasons) by the comic folks attending -as evidenced by Cosplay Bingo:

Cosplay Bingo Philip Spence

(Cosplay Bingo cards from May MCM Expo by Philip Spence, although he’s attributing the idea to Howard Hardiman.)

The particularly interesting thing, at least for us here on the FPI blog, is the increasingly high profile of the Comic Village / Anime Village at the MCM Expo. It’s only been there for a couple of years but is getting a lot of attention amongst comic folks (although some of that is undoubtably because it’s a London show) and is getting a reputation for lots of crowds, lots of non-comic customers keen to spend money on comics and a very impressive guest list. Reports from May’s MCM Expo indicate that it’s a very enjoyable show and if you’re there tomorrow have fun.

MCM Comic Village and Anime Village is part of London MCM Expo, taking place tomorrow and Sunday (24th and 25th October 2009) at Excel London, E16 1XL. (Google Maps)
