This was actually announced a few days ago but I missed it – Seth Green (of Austin Powers, Buffy, Family Guy and Robot Chicken fame – a true geek star) will be lending his talents to Disney and Robert Zemeckis’ ImageMovers’ adaptation of cartoonist Berkeley ‘Bloom County’ Breathed’s children’s book Mars Needs Moms. The film will be a motion capture animation (no, I’m not getting into the argument again as to whether motion capture constitues ‘real’ animation or not). Green will play young lad Milo who stows away on a spacecraft to try and find and rescue his mother after she is kidnapped by aliens. Joan Cusack will play his mother and he will be re-teamed with his Austin Powers ‘mum’ Mindy Sterling who plays the alien leader on Mars. A new hardback deluxe series collecting all of Breathed’s classic Bloom County strip was announced recently and is likely to see publication late this year. (via The Hollywood Reporter)
