Millard Kaufman, Magoo creator, passes away

News is just filtering out that writer Millard Kaufman, one of the creators of the short-sighted cartoon character Mr Magoo for the old UPA animation studio back in 1949, has passed away at the age of 92. Screenwriter Kaufman, who worked on a variety of films in his long career, created Magoo in collaboration with several others. At the age of 90, remarkably, he published his first novel (through McSweeney’s), Bowl of Cherries, with a second due to be published later this year, a late string addition to his bow which included script work on a number of acclaimed films, although doubtless it is the myopic cartoon character he will be best remembered for.
