SFWA Service Award: Victoria Strauss

Bradbury Award: Joss Whedon

Grand Master Award: Harry Harrison

Author Emerita: M.J. Engh

How wonderful to see Ursula K. Le Guin still going strong, still impressing readers and her peers alike and still winning major awards in her eighth decade and I’m sure Joss Whedon will be more than pleased with his Bradbury gong. And on a personal note great to see Harry Harrison being honoured too; 2000 AD’s comics adaptations of the delightful Stainless Steel Rat novels were my introduction to Harry’s prose tales as a kid and I’ve loved his work ever since (and note to Rebellion, some of us would love to see those reprinted).

As I was writing this I noticed that SF Awards watch are seriously on the case this weekend and just added the news of this year’s Tiptree Awards (given for SF&F which explores the nature and evolution of gender roles) , with the main award this year being a tie between Patrick Ness’ The Knife of Never Letting Go and Nisi Shawl’s Filter House. SFAW has the full honours list.
