21 year old Karen Gillan has been announced by the BBC as the new companion to go with the next Doctor, Matt Smith: “I am absolutely over the moon at being chosen to play the Doctor’s new companion. – I just can’t wait to get started. The show is such a massive phenomenon that I can’t quite believe I am going to be a part of it. Matt Smith is an incredible actor and it is going to be so much fun to act alongside him.”

Incoming Who head honcho Steven Moffat described her as “funny, and clever, and gorgeous, and sexy. Or Scottish, which is the quick way of saying it… A generation of little girls will want to be her. And a generation of little boys will want them to be her too.” The young actress from Inverness has already appeared in Doctor Who, playing a soothsayer in the Fires of Pompeii episode. Between Karen and Matt this means the TARDIS crew is going to be awfully young, fresh faced and good looking, but we older fans will have to learn not to hold that against them 
. I’m afraid I don’t really know much about Karen’s acting CV, but I’ve learned since the return of Doctor Who to trust the casting choices the production crew has made. Although I will miss Tennant’s Doctor (he really owned that role) I’ll confess I’m getting quite excited at the upcoming regeneration and the Matt Smith incarnation.
