Yup, without a human companion, he's just as bad as any of the rest of the Timelords: arrogant, distant, and now loaded with so much hubris that I'm looking forward to seeing him die and regenerate. Nice (and wholly new to WHO) idea.

I quite liked the ending actually, the fact that his foreknowledge of his own doom and the lack of a companion to hold him to the straight and narrow is warping his judgement until it takes a human to show him what taking responsibility for the timeline and history actually is

Pretty good. Nothing plot wise you haven't seen a dozen times before in new who, the ending was really forced IMHO and lost the sense of doom the show had when on Mars.

but Tennant made this work. I fear for the new guy, you take Tennant out of these things and the faults would really stand out.

Tying it the (one of the) Dalek invasions was a nice touch, fleshing out the support characters like that is something the regular series often falls down on.
