Bit of a supergroup of UK small press here. Well, okay, a bit of a super duo anyway. Oliver Smith (dashing poster boy for Camden Comic Stall, London Underground Comics, LUC176 and writer/artist of various comics that I rather liked) and Oliver Lambden (artist on the great Tales From The Flat and Dan Lester Mysteries have been working away on BLOC for years now. And they’d like us all to know that it’s finally ready to see the light:
Described by Oli as:
“A postmodern fairytale, BLOC is the story of a stone man washed up on the beach of a mysterious island covered in giant floating blocks… Story by Oli Smith, Illustrations by Oliver Lambden, this comic has been two years in the making, going through various different guises and will finally be released at LUC@176 on Saturday the 27th of June.”
Described by Oliver as:
“Anyone who follows this very irregular blog on a regular basis will know that BLOC has long been a thorn in my side. It was first meant to come out for our “No Barcodes” event at Camden Lock Market back last Summer and I then managed to miss every other convention deadline all the way up till now.
So why so long? Mainly because I’m lazy and smoke too much. But also because the script is ridiculously open for interpretation and improvisation. And because the comic itself is completely wordless, it gives you even more room to stretch. The original script has the story clock in by 18 pages. I stretched it out to 47 pages. Got there in the end though and I’m fairly pleased with the end result.”

BLOC is available on Oli’s website to preview and he’s been posting up two pages per day for a few days now in the lead up to LUC 176 this Saturday.
