Damian Whitworth in The Times profiles top political cartoonist Peter Brookes as the artist is the subject of an exhibition at the Chris Beetles Gallery in London:
“That got me into a bit of hot water, which I was quite glad about. He said condoms were not the answer to the continent’s problems. To my mind that is completely ridiculous and so you make him look ridiculous. I have yet to do something that has caused a reaction that I have felt ashamed of,” Brookes on his cartoon depicting the Pope with a condom over his head (see below) after the Pontiff visited Africa and declared condoms were no use in fighting the continent’s dreadful AIDS infection rates.
