Producer in quandry over Watchmen movie

As regular readers will be aware the release of the Watchmen movie was threatened for some time due to a legal tussle between Warners and Fox, the latter claiming they still had some legal rights to the property after developing it for some time, with producer Larry Gordon accused of not securing the complete rights before taking the pic to Warners. Fox and Warners came to an agreement recently (which sees Fox compensated and getting a percentage) which allows the film to roll out on time next week, but Warners legal team turned their attention to Larry Gordon with a view to suing him for placing them into that position. Which, as The Hollywood Reporter notes, places the producer into a very odd position – if Watchmen does seriously good box office then he stands to earn quite a significant haul of dosh. But on the flipside, the bigger a success the film is the larger the sum he might be sued for by the studio. Ouch. Once again I am assuming the only ones who are totally happy about all of this will the lawyers…
