Comics and cartoons

The U2 stage musical of Spider-Man we mentioned some weeks back now has a confirmed title and opening date – Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark is down to open on Broadway on the 18th of February 2010 (with some preview shows in January). According to Spin with a budget of $40 million the show is the most expensive to be staged on Broadway. It will be housed in the Hilton Theatre which was where Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein production was based (I’ve not seen the stage show but the original film still ranks as one of my favourite comedy movies of all time), the 42nd Street theatre being the only one considered large enough for a production on this scale. “Spider-Man’s battles will hurtle the audience through an original story both recognizable and unexpected – yielding new characters as well as familiar faces – until a final surprising confrontation casts a startling new light on this hero’s journey,” said the Producers. No word on casting yet and, more importantly in my opinion, will Bono and company include a nod to the classic Spider-Man cartoon theme? And if so can they possibly be as cool as the Ramone were doing it?
