Marvel’s ambitious movie release slate has been re-arranged – With Sony announcing Spider-Man 4 will go on release in May 2011 Marvel has moved some of their previously announced superhero flicks back a bit. The Thor movie will now move from a projected July 2010 to June 2011 and The First Avenger: Captain America moves to a July 2011 slot to leave the May slot that year open for Spidey, while Iron Man 2 is set for May 2010. The proposed Avengers flick, which is likely to be set later but lead on from the Captain America movie, will probably be moved to May 2012, apparently allowing a better chance to introduce the wider film audience to individual characters like the Cap before hitting them with an ensemble team movie. As The Hollywood Reporter notes this schedule would mean Marvel would be in at the start of the lucrative summer blockbuster season three years running with three ‘tentpole’ movies, which could work very well for their movie ambitions.

In related news Woody Allen muse Scarlett Johansson is down to play the Black Widow in Iron Man 2, which I imagine means she will have to do a ‘Kirsten Dunst’ and go redhead; hopefully IM2 will be better received than her last comics/film role in The Spirit. It looks like Mickey Rourke may also be added to the cast for IM2.
