Channel 4’s digital channel E4 will be launching Misfits on Thursday 12th of November at 10pm. No, its not based around the life and times of the cult punk band (extra street cred points to you if you got that reference), its a new superhero series, with a group of youngsters who have all gained powers following a freak electrical storm (makes a change from atomic exposure). Except being E4 its going to be a bit different: the youngsters are not the usual heroic types, they all have serious problems (they are all on community service orders) and their powers apparently grow out of the negative aspects of their personality (one who is ignored by friends and family can become invisible, a girl who feels everyone looks down on her can now read minds). The Beeb article describes it as a bit “Skins meets atomic Shameless”, which certainly seems to be the vibe they’re giving out with it, although as the powers may not be the best and may actually be a bloody nuisance it looks like it also draws a bit on the highly enjoyable No Heroics.
