Comics and cartoons

As a celebration of the 70th anniversary of Marvel Comics, Comics Should Be Good over at the CBR site have a list of what they consider 70 Most Iconic Panels in Marvel Comics History. And they want votes to decide who wins. Head over here for rules and how to vote.

But of the choices, I’d go for these:

70marvelpanel4

(Amazing Spider-Man 42. Probably my first comic crush – saw it in some reprint somewhere as a child.)

70marvelpanel23

(Uncanny X-Men 168. Paul Smith. A favourite)

But….. Here’s one that didn’t get in.
And it’s my personal choice for most iconic Marvel panel – or at least it’s my choice for MY most iconic Marvel panel.
(And here are the reasons why).

fury05

(Marvel Superheroes 388, Aug 1982. Alan Davis art to Alan Moore’s story. The Fury tracks down Captain Britain. And that was the moment I knew I loved comics.)

I can easily pick out my favorite panels such as the Mazzucchelli Daredevils, the end of Dark Phoenix, the death of Executioner, but really, how can I objectively deny how iconic those older panels are, such as Bruce Banner and the bomb, Gwen Stacey’s neck snapping…they’re all iconic, I think.

My one favorite panel not on the list is from Uncanny X-Men 167 where the New Mutants meet the X-Men for the first time and they’re bowled over by Cyclops’ leadership.
