“I wanted to make this film of my book The Pig of Happiness as a free project for anyone to view in order to try to increase, by however small an amount, the world’s reserves of happiness.” Thus starts this rather nice animated project by ‘Edward Monkton’, also known as Giles Andreae, creator of Purple Ronnie and bestselling children’s author (most lately collaborating with one of our faves, Sarah McIntyre, on the utterly fab Morris the Mankiest Monster, reviewed here by Molly and Richard).
According to the Telegraph Andreae spent thousands of pounds of his own money to create this animation (complete with Geoffrey Palmer narrating) based on his book about a pig who decides to face adversity and hard times with humour and a smile and make it freely available online with the simple and rather laudable aim of just making folks smile for a few moments, take their mind off seemingly endless news reports of recession, cutbacks, environmental problems and have a laugh for a moment. Which I have to say I heartily approve of -- remember what they say, smile and the whole world smiles, while thinking ‘what’s he been up to then?’
