Comics and cartoons

With hair up-staring – then like reeds, not hair -
was the first man that leapt; cried Hell is empty,
And all the devils are here
.”

(Shakespeare, The Tempest)

Shakespeare Tempest Jon Haward Classical Comics.jpg

This stunning image of Ariel as a Harpie comes courtesy of Jon Haward, who has been busy creating the artwork for Classical Comics’ adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest (one of my favourite Shakespeare plays, as it happens). Jon comments that this page is also a sort of homage to the great wizard of the screen, Mr Ray Harryhausen (who I am sure influenced the imagination of many of us at a tender age). The inks are by Gary Erskine and the colouring by Nigel Dobbyn, art (c) Classical Comics.
