Good friend of the blog Marko Ajdaric, who runs the Neorama world comics news site, reports that noted Portuguese comics artist and animator Vasco Granja has passed away. Vasco, born in 1925, had run ins with the authorities over his political affiliations, but he still reached beyond Portugal, exhibiting at the highly respected Annecy international animation festival and (according to a Google translation of his Wiki entry) also served on the jury at Angoulême in the mid 70s, as well as being involved with a number of other international comics and animation movements and festivals around the world. Marko notes quite simply that he was ‘the master’ for many.
