Gaiman Library

Oh my word.

And incredibly, that’s just one small part of Neil Gaiman’s basement library in a series of photos taken by Kyle Cassidy for the Shelfari site. I know that every successful writer has a library of sorts. But the sheer, unbelievable, incredible scale of Gaiman’s is just breathtaking. And then I went to Neil’s blog and read this:

And, for the curious, this is what some of the downstairs library, and Hermione the Library Cat looks like. (I wish the upstairs library with all the good reference stuff was in it too.)

There’s another library? Oh my word indeed. (Update: pictures of the upstairs library here.)

This is my idea of heaven in many ways. Were I to be lucky in the lottery I wouldn’t lavishly spend on fast cars or yachts but I would buy myself a house big enough to fit a proper library into it. And the great thing about these incredible photos? – all of the images are hi-res so just by clicking of them you can go and have a virtual look around Neil Gaiman’s library. But be warned – it may take some time.
