A Few Of My Favourite Things

I know, I tend to hammer on the same nails all the time, but I can’t help it.  There are things that I can’t get enough of, and the art by Pieter De Poortere is one of them.  Two recent examples : the simply amazing Boerke strip that appeared in this week’s Focus (above), and the poster that Pieter created for the Antwerp Book Fair (below).

It’s another one of Pieter’s signature “Where’s Waldo” type pictures, full to the brim with inside jokes and references.  Even if you’re not up to speed with Dutch literature, you’ll easily spot Geronimo Stilton, Harry Potter, Miffy, Mario, and Tarzan.  And maybe you’ll spot Flemish comic heroes Kiekeboe, Jommeke and Suske & Wiske as well  (click the picture for a large-sized PDF version, courtesy of boek.be) !

That other great stylist that I keep going on about, Erik De Graaf, let me know the other day that his recent graphic novel, Scherven, is hot off the press in a glorious hardcover French edition at La Pasteque (check out Erik’s blog, where we pinched this video presentation). Jeux de mémoire will be available in Canada next october. Let’s hope some English publisher finally picks it up…
