Alex in Love – a Peattie & Taylor exhibition

The arch yuppie and heartless capitalist Alex, created by Peattie and Taylor back in the days when mobile phones were the size of a brick (or the size of the shoulder pads on Dynasty) and cost several thousand pounds, has his own exhibition running until June the 18th at the Last Tuesday Society, 11 Mare Street, London E8 (nearest tube station is Bethnal Green), drawing on a couple of decades’ worth of material from his appearances in the Independent (where I first encountered him, I was an avid Alex fan back then) and then the Telegraph, all dealing with matters romantic (in so far as a self centred banker like Alex can be said to indulge the heart, of course, Peattie & Taylor will put their customary fine spin on it all for the world of Alex, which has always delighted in setting up an obvious line then making a right turn in the last panel to something else altogether).Details on the official Alex site. (this one takes me back – Alex following Tolstoy’s example and sharing his diary with his soon to be wife Penny, although he sees it as a chance to boast about how much he spent on fine dining… Alex (c) Peattie & Taylor)
