Channel 4 has joined up with Pulp Theatre (who were behind the Brodie’s Law graphic novel) to create Alien Ink, an online comic about a couple, Trinity and Ryder, who arrive in Camden Town and set up an unusual tattoo shop around the same time as UFO sightings are reported around Primrose Hill. The place soon becomes a mecca for youth in the area but soon questions start to be asked about their extraordinary tattoo art. The series is a project by Channel 4, drawing on their popular teen drama Skins, with the idea of exploring problems common to that age group in an accessible way and using online social media for the readers to interact with the series, which is going to run to 30 episodes with a new one each week, with printed versions to follow, which will be distributed free to libraries across the UK.
“We’re thrilled to have found and be working with a dynamic organisation like Pulp Theatre, and to be exploring a new way to engage with teenagers. Alien Ink will raise everyday issues in a relevant and entertaining way, and will further deliver useful data on topics like health, drugs or tattooing alongside the storylines. We think this is a great way to reach teens with stories that matter, and to point them to information that’ll genuinely help,” Alice Taylor, Commissioning Editor, Channel 4 Education.
