Awards, Books

Macmillan has posted a good quality video of the quite brilliant China Mieville’s acceptance speech after winning this week at the UK’s most prestigious literary prize for good science fiction writing, the Arthur C Clarke Awards for his novel The City and the City.

I love China’s work – if you haven’t read it you really should also try one of his earlier, breakthrough works Perdido Street Station, which is one of the highwater marks of a fascinating new trend in science fiction and fantasy. And, as always, if you are looking for some good SF&F reading suggestions I’d point you not only to the winner but to the other very fine scribes who were nominated for this year’s Clarkes, you really can’t go wrong with any of them.
