From our continental correspondent – Blexbolex for Bastia

Ever since his Abécédaria was chosen as the most beautiful book at the 2008 Leipzig Book Fair (see here), it would seem that the world has (finally) discovered French cartoonist and illustrator BlexBolex.  Abécédaria was recently translated into German, English and other languages, and now BlexBolex was asked to create the poster for the 2010 BD A Bastia festival, which will take place in April, 2010 in the Una Volta cultural centre in Bastia, France.

BlexBolex Abecederia

It is a real beauty, at once modern and vintage, with a typically yellowed color palette that can be found in many of BlexBolex’s works.  As is the tradition in these things, the poster is crammed with references to classic comics, from Tintin to Corto Maltese to Blacksad (I think).  A (very) large PDF version is available on the Una Volta website for you to print out and stick on your wall.

As for the festival itself, it aims at being a cultural event where you can meet famous authors, young talents, and discover classic comics or children’s literature from all around the world. It focuses on creation, with exhibitions of original works, bewitching scenographies, workshops for children, meetings and debates, etcetera.  BD A Bastia wants to introduce young authors to the public, to pay tribute to great names, and give a podium for comics and children’s literature. In 2010, the main theme of BD À Bastia will be “comics and sound” with three exhibitions about this topic. Personal exhibitions with work by artists such as BlexBolex, Jean-Pierre Gibrat, Albertine, Joëlle Jolivet, Elzbieta will also take place… The special guest country will be Russia.
