I’ve always enjoyed travel writing and reading works like Guy Delisle’s Burma Chronicles makes me wonder why, given how popular a field travel lit is in bookstores, more comics creators don’t use their medium for travel lit. Well, Phil Spence points us towards the start of a brand new online serial about travel from Kayla Marie Hillier, with the delightful title Galavant. Frankly I just love that Kayla used a a great word which we don’t see employed too often for her title. She’s going to post up an episode each Monday detailing a three month trip around the UK, with the first introductory part online now. I can see from some photos on her site that she also made it to Edinburgh at some point in her galavanting (although for her Scottish segment perhaps I should say stravaiging), and I think I will be bookmarking this one to follow and see how it develops. And if you’re thinking you know Kayla’s work from somewhere else, she was one of the varied contributors to the excellent 69 Love Songs, Illustrated anthology.
