Comics and cartoons

It’s been a month of football. Some great, some not so great. And then there was England. Not so great doesn’t even come close. One more match to go. Will it be a spectacular, open, magnificent spectacle or will it be a spectacularly dull 0-0 draw,, extra time and then penalties? Who knows?

But before we put the football references away for another few years here on the blog, I have to show you these. Wim found them a week or so back and blogged about them at The Ephemerist:

They’re fragments of work for “Alè Tran Tran”, a footballing mini series by Italian cartoonist Lorenzo Mattotti (probably best known in the UK for his brilliant Penguin comic Fires). Arthur Van Kruining has some art from the issues up on his Flickr page and they’re all rather exquisite.

After this small sampling, head over to Van Kruining’s Flickr for more and keep your eye out for the complete issues one day. Unless anyone has copies they wouldn’t mind scanning in for us? Please?
