Maurice Vellekoop is an sometimes comic artist whose work I first saw a decade and more ago in his gorgeous Vellevision book from Drawn & Quarterley. Lush, colourful, playful works full of life and fun, his artwork is a technicolour delight. Sadly his comic work is secondary to his work in illustration and design – one spot illo somewhere pays the rent for a month, whilst a full graphic novel may take years and not make a penny – it’s a sad world we live in.
