Marko at Neorama points us towards a new collection, Comics: Fundacio CPB de Salud Mental, a collection of 141 comics made by users of the mental health services in Catalonia: “This innovative book is the result of an idea of the prestigious American graphic designer Sanchez, who for years collaborated with the Mental Health Foundation of CPB. Les obres aquí reunides són el resultat de la convocatoria de la XII edició del Premi a la Creativitat Artística “Agustí de Semir-Conxa Millán”, per fer-se ressó del Dia Mundial de la Salut Mental i destinat a residents a Catalunya que siguin usuaris dels serveis de Salut Mental. The works collected here are the result of the notice of the XII Prize for Artistic Creativity “Augustine de Semir Conxa-Millan,” to echo the World Mental Health Day .”
The translation of the page isn’t perfect so I may be picking some of this up wrong, but it looks as if the collection is involved in some sort of awards ceremony with a jury which includes Mariscal, one of the featured artists at the upcoming Salón Internacional del Comic in Barcelona which Wim mentioned in the previous post, with a ceremony on Thursday 18th at the MACBA Auditorium in Barcelona, with an associated exhibition running from the 19th to the 25th of February. As I said the translation isn’t perfect but I thought it was an interesting bookend to Wim’s post on the Barcelona comics Salón and its intriguing as we eagerly wait for the printed version of Darryl Cunningham’s Psychiatric Tales to hear about other comics artists in another country also using the medium as a way of addressing mental health issues.
