Sherlock Holmes vs Skeletor

Do you really need me to tell you that this is funny? Surely the idea alone and that cover should tell you that?

And it’s a simple one to review – Sherlock Holmes meets Skeletor, they each screw around with the other in various comedy situations. Like this one:

And this one:

And it carries on in the same vein for 18 pages, silly, ridiculous, playful strips that take a daft, funny idea and just play with it. Just enough to enjoy the jokes, not enough to get tired of the simple idea. The strips themselves, all riffing off that one simple idea, still find enough wriggle room for some nice (and funny) ideas.

Brookes’ art is simple, perfunctory stuff, but it doesn’t matter – it’s all in service to the gag. And there’s plenty of nice work – like the simple effects of lighting in the strip above.

All in all, it’s just 18 pages of a daft, childish idea. But daft, childish ideas can be funny – and this certainly is. Very, very funny.
