Still one of my favourite bits of artwork ever (with two of his gorgeous covers hanging on my walls – no, not originals, but I can wish), Steranko’s Nick Fury was a magnificent thing, both of it’s time and wonderfully timeless.
Comic Book Resources recently put up a selection of pages from possibly the most famous Steranko storyline “Who Is Scorpio?”:
Absolutely beautiful work. Sadly, both Marvel Nick Fury collections are out of print right now, although some shops may have copies. If you can get hold of them, you really should.
UPDATE 22/08/10 – Lew Stringer points out in the comments that these Steranko Nick Fury stories have also been reissued (with the original colouring and an introduction from Steranko) as a single volume hardback Marvel Masterwork – now that is a must buy!

Those two Nick Fury collections were not the best representation of the strip. Even Steranko didn’t approve of the modern recolouring they had.
However, several months ago Marvel reprinted practically all of Steranko’s S.H.I.E.L.D. strips in one of their Marvel Masterworks, with the original colours. Steranko wrote a lengthy foreword for the book. That is still in print I believe and is far more faithful than the previous books.

Lew I didn’t know that – definitely one I’ll be looking out for – many thanks

Ah, didn’t know the Nick Fury issues were back in print! I have the two paperbacks & the odds-and-ends one that included the Captain America issues, but an edition approved by Steranko is worth suporting.
