Maura McHugh has news of a short story competition that should interest all our readers with a creative bent: “What are the horror myths for the 21st century? Sure, we all love our werewolves and vampires, but where are the new monsters for our age? Where are the characters that reflect the diversity in our streets and neighbourhoods? What are the stories that tap into the terrors of modern life? We want to read them, in 500-word bites.” The deadline is Friday April 16th and the top ten chosen short tales will be published in the excellent Black Static, home of short horror and dark fantasy fiction (and sister publication to the brilliant Interzone, both a regular part of my reading schedule) as well as podcast on Action Audio – check the site for full details.
