Kenny, that's very encouraging to know, thanks. i've been thinking about self-publishing all of my graphic short stories later this year, funds permitting, and assuming i finish the one i'm currently working on by the end of the year. but i'll be in touch to disucss further before i decide what to do with them.

So that's three votes no for Walking The Dog. Thank God. Like I said in the review I felt completely on my own in disliking it, especially after Paul Gravett's comments about it. But I'm sticking by what I said. It may make some people's best of year lists, but it wont be anywhere near mine.

Laurie certainly doesn't seem that keen on Walking the Dog - and I wasn't either really. There is some amazing drawing but as a comic - for me at least - it didn't really work. It just didn't feel cohesive - kinda like the Beatles White album - it might have made something excellent with more left out - it felt far to kitchen sink and all - and the general tone of the book I found a bit, well, dull. Laurie if no-one else you have tried will publish your comics here - i'd be very interested at Blank Slate books if you like - I think your work is amazing. Kenny - manpen@aol.com

i was going to write a scathing review of this book, but then i thought no, it's not right for one artist to trash another especially when one is a successful artist published by Jonathan Cape, and the other is an unknown artist who would love to be published by the same, and we should either be supportive of other professional artists or keep silent, so i won't say anything, except if this "will be a landmark book in the field of graphic literature*" then well, let's wait and see if it is or not.

*Jonathan Cape prediction
