Issue 5 of Comical Animal is out now – well, actually it was up a week ago, but sometimes life just gets in the way of covering comics. Damn you, life! Damn you!

Anyway, for those of you in the know, you’ll be aware that this Jim Medway curated and coordinated online comic features animals that are comical – as in comic animals, not necessarily funny animals. It’s become rather a regular treat, with each new issue giving at least a regular smile, usually a laugh and a giggle and even the occasional guffaw. If you’re not aware of Jim Medway’s Comical Animal, just re-read that last paragraph.

So here we go, a few selected highlights of a great issue:

(Buffalo Mozzarella by Lizz Lunney, and it includes a handy spot the difference for those of us confused with the Buffalo/Bison issue!)

(Om, by Piotr Nowacki)

(Steve Tillotson’s A Pun Lovers Guide To The Zoo – I’ve left half off so you can go and have fun at Comical Animal spotting them all, but find these: jag-U-R, zebra crossing, drizzly bear, yak to the future, dandy lion and flamin-GO)

(Jim Medway’s Squirrel-bot)

Comical Animal really is so much fun, a guarantee of a little sunshine on a grey Yorkshire day – great comic strips from some great artists.

Issue 6 will be out in a few months time, along with a digital download of issues 1-3. In the meantime, Jim is always looking for submissions, and you can support Comical Animals by adopting an animal. This gets you a personalised strip featuring an animal from the Comical Animal zoo, just like these Capuchin Monkeys, art by Jim Medway, adopted by Caroline, Jimi and Gemima for Nick:

Although, as I do keep saying, for me, it’s all about lovely Lucy, the Okapi calf with those perfect facial expressions….
