FPI Most Wanted – Books to look for coming in October And November…..

Another month begins, another list of graphic novels and comics we’d like to suggest you take a look at coming at you over the next couple of months… here’s what we’re looking forward to in October and November 2011:

OCTOBER 2011

Kate Beaton’s Hark A Vagrant - should really be top of your list this month. And the Incal from Self Made Hero and a first in a new, affordable hardback series of the best of Barks’ Donald Duck from Fantagraphics should be right alongside.

The excellent Marshall Rogers and Steve Englehart Batman gets the hardcover treatment. And 100 Bullets Volume 1 starts a 5 volume hardcover collection of the acclaimed Vertigo series. And I never realised that the Warren Ellis written Captain Swing (issue 1 reviewed here) had finished… but here’s the collection, so it must have done.

Moore and O’Neill’s The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Volumes 1 & 2 are collected together in one big hardcover, and we see not one but two complete collections of All Star Superman by Morrison and Quitely – softcover or absolute – your choice.

A welcome return to Nostalgia & Comics’ Michael with (fittingly) three returns in comics… the return of James Robinson with Shade #1, the return of the 100 Bullets team of Azzerello and Risso with Spaceman #1 and Jonathan Hickman returns to his drawing board with Image Comics Feel Better Now.

And also from Michael; Shannon Wheeler’s I Thought You Would Be Funnier is a collection of cartoons from the New Yorker cartoonist and Fantagraphics and Jason brings us Jason Conquers America. Joe points out Jennifer Hayden’s Underwire.

SelfMadeHero give us Hellraisers, Alison Bechdel gives us this years Best American Comics 2011, and Lynda Barry gives us Everything!

NOVEMBER 2011

Leading off this month we have a mega Blank Slate selection – lets start with the charity anthology with a single story that should be the hit of this years Thought Bubble festival – Nelson. And following that we have releases two and three in their Chalk Marks series; Nick Edwards’ manic Dinopopolous and Harvey James’ A Long Day Of Mr James Teacher.

More from Blank Slate….. all hopefully debuting at Thought Bubble! Hector Umbra, My Skateboard Life and Peepholes

Antonio Prohias’ genius Spy Vs Spy cartoons receive a much deserved omnibus hardcover, Luke Pearson’s delightful Hilda returns, this time in a full length graphic novel, and at last, at last… Morrison and Quitely’s Flex Mentallo returns.

Interesting new anthology Ink + Paper, mountaineering genius in Summit Of The Gods Volume 3 finally (fingers crossed) sees print from Fanfare Ponent Mon, and the latest in the saga of Jerusalem West; Confederate Dead promises to be just as great as all the Cheverton/Keable created series thus far.

Metamaus celebrates the 25th anniversary of Spiegelman’s classic tale. Metaphrog’s Louis: Red Letter Day is re-released and reworked but just as lovely as always. Marjane Satrapi’s new book The Sigh.

Mazeworld returns, and SelfMadeHero continue their eclectic and excellent publishing schedule for 2011 with Robot and Sandcastle

The second volume of Tardi’s extraordinary Adele Blanc-Sec, the fifth and final Absolute Sandman and the Hellboy: House Of The Living Dead HC rounds out the month…. what looks good to you coming to the shelves?

  1. A Cheverton Says:

Thanks, Richard – that’s some excellent company to be in!

I’m quite disconnected from mainstream comics, so I wasn’t aware of The Shade – huge fan of Robinson’s Starman, so that tempts me, especially with that art lineup.
