The Phoenix Comic PR machine just keeps going – even though we’re still just over 6 months away from the 7th January release date for the weekly comic from the editorial team behind the DFC comic. But here’s a little teaser trailer and the announcement of the first strip in the Phoenix; Pirates Of Pangaea by Daniel Hartwell and Neill Cameron:

There are still many big questions about The Phoenix, some of which we’ll find out in time (when, how, who etc) but many of which will be as difficult to get answers to as they were with the DFC.
Ownership of characters and profitability, how the subscription model works (if indeed, the new comic, like The DFC, will be subscription only) or how they’re hoping to create a viable new newsstand comic if they go that route instead?
But perhaps the inclusion of Neill Cameron answers one question – there may not be a place in The Phoenix for those strips that were left unfinished in The DFC. After all, Neill Cameron’s Mo Bot High season 2 was, as far as I’m aware, ready to go for The DFC, but The Phoenix goes with a new strip – is it a sign of things (not) to come, a reliance on the new? Or will The Phoenix be using old, unfinished DFC strips at some point? 6 months to go, we’ll find out at some point. In the meantime, expect the PR machine to really get into gear by autumn.
