Marc Ellerby’s Chloe Noonan is a firm favourite here. A funny, quirky adventure series that has been great fun across the three issues and various bits and bobs so far….
I’ve gone on (at length) about Ellerby before – whether it’s his autobiog strip Ellerbisms (see here), previous issues of Chloe Noonan (Issue 1, Issue 2) or his Noonan strips in Solipsistic Pop #2 and on the cover of Solipsistic Pop #3). So,yes, I do rather like the comic. I do like the comic a lot. Here’s a little of what I said then:
Issue 1: “15 pages of the best fun you may have all year”
Issue 2: “….a guaranteed to put a smile on your face comic, full of great gags, wonderful artwork, well observed moments and some great tongue in cheek kick arse monster hunting action”
Solipsistic Pop Issue 2: “…..rendered in Ellerby’s lovely line with added blue tones giving it a stylish and fresh look. Funny as all hell as well”
Ellerby describes Noonan as a “ginger-whinger-ninja”, and he’s just announced the publication of the latest Noonan comic, this time a full colour 24-pages of monster fighting and moaning brilliance. Well, I haven’t seen it yet, but unless Ellerby’s done something radically different and lost the ability too draw I can’t see it being anything other than another wonderfully enjoyable comic. Here’s how Ellerby describes it though:
“You should all know Chloe Noonan by now, but if you don’t here are the deets. Chloe is a monster hunter, but she doesn’t have any super-powers. She can’t hit things, she can’t run without getting a stitch, she has no agility or skills to speak of, she has to get the bus to even track down the monsters. Based in the fictional British town of Ravensdale, she works for a secret organisation who are trying to keep this little problem under control as well as doing normal teenage things like going to sixth form and stuff.”
“This issue sees our hero take on her biggest threat yet: the weekly student indie disco. But all is not what it seems. Joined as always by her BFF Zoe Fox and male-pal Doug, this comic fits nicely into the three previous publications but as always is a perfect introduction to the characters and world of Ravensdale.”
Chloe Noonan: Monster Hunter – Colour Special gets a debut at Thought Bubble Leeds in a couple of weeks, and you can pre-order it for the ridiculously reasonable price of £4 from Ellerby’s shop and get it from the end of November in a range of fine comics emporia.
Some preview pages perhaps….. oh yes.

Nice one! One of my favourite comics… it’s been too long.
