Jean Giraud / Moebius / Gir ….. three names, one incredible man. Last weekend the comic world received the terrible news that we’d lost an innovative genius. And all week we’ve been seeing various pieces of art go up online to pay tribute. Here’s a selection. I’m sure no-one invoved here would mind me saying that, as good as the tributes may be, none of them come near to the inspired genius of Moebius.
Most of these pieces also come with the artist talking a little of what Moebius meant to them. I debated whether to include the text as well, but in the end, figured that, aside from a couple of very specific examples, it was enough to see the tribute and get the link.
However, there have been several moving and heartfelt tributes to the man this past week: Tom Spurgeon’s obituary at Comics Reporter, Steve Holland’s obituary at The Guardian, Dave Taylor’s joyous tale of secret Moebius pages in a Moebius tribute book, Neil Gaiman on a very expensive piece of art, whilst Joe Keatinge , Chris Foss, and Sean Witzke write some great, wonderful words. In addition, Tom at The Comics Reporter is assembling a large Moebius collective memory link piece, that’s a must as well.
Right, into the Moebius tribute art……
Michael Oeming: Full strip at Oeming’s site, but this works so well to lead us off…..
