Comics and cartoons

Honestly, it’s been a while since any comic project on Kickstarter has caught my attention enough for me to pre-order a copy: the last one was Mike Raicht and Zack Howard’s Wild Blue Yonder back in early August. But Noah van Sciver and Nic Breutzman’s weird and creepy looking Deep in the Woods has changed that- not only interesting enough for me to dish over the monies, but to make me want to share it with a wider audience so folk can get a copy of their own. I love comics that experiment with format, and have become a bit of a sucker for those printed on newsprint- (check out Brendan Leach’s Pterodactyl Hunters in the Gilded City) so this grabbed my attention from the off. And that image of the headless cow/bull helped decide the rest. What can I say? I’m a strange duck.

The comic will be produced in a larger format- 17 1/2″ by 112- which is roughly the size of a broadsheet, but a little narrower and longer, I believe, and the stories are described as ‘urban myth/fairytale-ish.’ Running at 28 pages, it’s a double feature with van Sciver and Breutzman providing a story each. A copy will cost you only $8, inclusive of shipping if you’re in the US (and that’s a pretty sweet deal) and $18 for international orders. The guys have a $1000 goal, of which they’ve already raised $899 with 10 days to go, so I’d say you’re pretty sure of seeing it come to fruition.

Back it here.
