Little Tombstone

Now this short animation really made me smile – Little Tombstone by Azais Frédéric, Di Malta Théo, Leymonerie Benjamin and Quillet Adrien is another product from the Ecole Supérieure des Métiers Artistiques (ESMA), and is based around that classic staple of the Western genre, the shoot-out in an appropriately dusty frontier town. But it’s more than that – it is a very well detailed short that pays huge amounts of homage to those brilliant Sergio Leone spaghetti Westerns, from a very Clint Eastwood ‘man with no name’ like character to the music, to the way the ‘camera’ lingers over the often grotesque faces of the other characters in much the way Leone’s camera frequently did. It’s funny, well observed and if it is taking the mickey out of those classic Westerns then it is obviously doing so with a lot of love. I’m going to be doing Clint Eastwood quotes all day now because of this…:
