Comics and cartoons, Upcoming

Halfway through the year, which means it’s time to have a look at what’s coming out in the second half of 2012…. UPCOMING:

This time it’s Cinebook, translating and publishing some of the best Franco-Belgian BD since 2005 for us poor people who were brought up believing Euro comics stopped with Tintin and Asterix.

Here’s what’s coming out from the company in the next few months….

XIII 14 – Release the Hounds (July)

Having escaped the clutches of Irina’s organisation, XIII is on the loose in America but still hunted by both Giordino’s NSA and Irina’s top assassin, Jessica. As he tries to return to his friends in San Miguel, he’s forced to dodge bullets and outsmart various traps and ambushes. With the odds stacked against him, he will have to rely on help from an enemy and his own mounting anger at the constant string of attacks.

SPOOKS 2 – Century Club (July)

Important personalities have been dying or going crazy. Investigator Morton Chapel and his men discover that they are on the trail of an ancient evil, something dating back to ancient Babylon and brought back to life by a British occultist. As the dark magician leaves a trail of destruction throughout the country’s ruling elite, the Spooks realise that the threat is directed at the highest level of government—and only they can stop it.

Yoko Tsuno 7 – The Curious Trio (July)

Vic and Pol are working for a television network when, one evening, they meet a young Japanese electronics engineer under very unusual circumstances. A friendship is soon struck up, a project drafted, and the newly formed trio is on its way to investigate an underground river. But they find a lot more than they bargained for and become part of a story that began millions of light years away, changing their lives forever.

Iznogoud 9 – The Grand Vizier Iznogoud (August)

Iznogoud is still trying to get rid of Caliph Haroun al Placid so he can take his place. He’s even kept a journal of his previous failed attempts. Never discouraged, he will once again come up with new ways to entertain us through his failures: genies, kidnappings, lookalikes, diplomatic incidents… and even the Mongol horde! When it comes to becoming Caliph instead of the Caliph, all’s fair to Grand Vizier Iznogoud!

Blake & Mortimer 14 – The Curse of the 30 Pieces of Silver – Part 2 (August)

Captured and then abandoned by Olrik, Mortimer is now lost at sea with no provisions. Fortunately, he can always count on Blake. Once reunited, and with the help of some old friends, the two British gentlemen continue their dangerous mission to stop von Stahl from resurrecting the Third Reich using the evil power of the 30 pieces of silver… a mission that will take them throughout Greece and into the very Kingdom of Hades!

Lucky Luke 36 – The Daltons Redeem Themselves (August)

When a senator comes up with a probation program to redeem criminals in the USA, the Supreme Court offers him a chance to prove the feasibility of his idea… by trying it out on the worst Old West villains ever: the Daltons. As usual, it’s up to Lucky Luke to keep an eye on the terrible four during their month-long trial period. If they can refrain from any crime during that time, they will be set free as good citizens…

Berlin – The Seven Dwarves (September)

An abandoned airfield in 1993: Two women exchange a 50-year-old letter. The year 1943: The crew of the Lancaster S-Snowwhite is dropping bombs on Germany. Seven men, so young and yet so old before their time. Seven dwarves for old Snow White, and their story of the war. The terror of night missions, the flak, the enemy fighters, the mid-air collisions… Death that strikes anywhere, any time, and the love you seek and latch onto desperately to feel alive while you can…

XIII 15 – Operation Montecristo (September)

Arrested by the Costaverdean authorities because of pressure from the US, XIII and his friends are awaiting their extradition. Instead, they’re freed by Costaverdean troops in disguise. But they can’t afford to stick around, as they’re still on the run from the most powerful nation on Earth. Desperate for money, McLane decides to go after Maximilian’s gold, as Mullway believes he’s found the location of the third silver watch. The problem is that the location is under 150 feet of water…

Valerian 4 – Welcome to Alflolol (September)

Technorog is a planet essential to the economy of the Terran empire. For 200 years, it has been a centre of industry, research and agriculture. Suddenly, the indigenous population— believed long extinct—comes back to the planet they know as Alflolol. Earth’s laws are strict: They must be allowed back on their ancestral grounds. But when Valerian and Laureline are assigned to facilitate their “reinsertion,” they see the difference between the letter of the law and its spirit…
