Thuy from the BD & Comics Passion Festival drops us a line to let us know the event, which celebrates the best of European and British comics work with talks, movies, workshops and more, is returning again this year, once again at the Institut Français in London, this year running from May 30th to June 2nd. Last year’s gig went very well and this year they are determined to build on that success. So far confirmed guests include Pénélope Bagieu, François Boucq, Etienne Davodeau, Virginie Despentes, Edika, Hunt Emerson, Régis Loisel, Posy Simmonds, Patrick Sobral and a cartoonist from the Peyo studios (the Smurfs), with more creators expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks as programme details are posted up. However, in the meantime the festival is launching a nationwide competition for UK kids aged between 7 and 17:
“All you need to do is design a comic book full of creativity where the food you love – or hate – most is the centrepiece… Anything can happen: a crazy scientist invents a new smell for Brussels sprouts? We love it! The adventures of Super Cucumber? Go for it! The discovery of a chocolate planet? We’ve been dreaming about it! But careful now, the title and cover of your comic are important, as much as the story and drawing … A panel of experts will choose the three most inventive and achieved applications. The winners will get amazing prizes, all presented during an astonishing prize ceremony at the Institut français in London, during the Festival.”
You can download the full set of rules for the competition (in both French and English) from the BD Passion site, so why not have a go? You’ve got until Thursday May 9th to try your luck. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more through March as the full programme and guest list goes to air.
