Comics: workshops for adults and kids coming up in London

Karen Rubins drops us a line to let us know of several upcoming comics workshops she is organising, mostly in London, for children and adults. Coming up for the half-term holidays there’s the Manga-tastic course at Chipping Barnet Library, for ages 12 through to 18, “four afternoons of planning, writing and drawing manga stories” with the results to be published in a wee anthology to be distributed by the libraries in Barnet. The course runs from the 19th to the 22nd of February from 2 to 5pm in the Chipping Barnet Library for £24 (bookings can be made here).

During April Karen will be running more comics workshops for kids (this time for 8 to 12 year olds) across various libraries in London as part of the City Read 2013 event where “children  are invited to make their own comic strips based on life in London.” There will be several events at different locations with dates and times to be announced soon, so check the CityRead London site for more details.

And finally this summer, from June 7th to 9th, there’s “a weekend (optionally) residential course on creating Comics and Graphic Novels at West Dean College, near Chichester in Sussex. Comics and Graphic Novels is suitable for all levels – come along and have an early summer break, while exploring the wonderful world of writing, drawing and storytelling. You can also put this course towards a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design. The course begins on Friday evening, and continues until Sunday tea-time, with plenty of civilised breaks for meals, tea and socialising.” More details to be found on the Dean College website, where there is also a PDF on the course.
