Film: Caterpillar

Film, TV and radio

Caterpillar is an intriguing, wordless short dark fantasy film (with hints of fairytale elements) from director David Field and friends; an elderly lady is housebound and lonely in an empty home, ill and wondering how it is her once vivacious, youthful self could have grown into this sick old woman, alone and forgotten, tucked away in her house out of sight and out of mind. And then she starts to dream, of silk-making caterpillars, and a potential for change starts to form. There’s no dialogue, it’s all carried by the actress through her expressions and body language, and the atmosphere of the film itself – it’s been doing the rounds on the film festival circuit and enjoying some success there, so have a look, it’s well worth a watch:
