Texas Chainsaw 3D, Lionsgate’s continuation of the story of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, opens in the UK today. For long-time fans of the series, it’s a chance to see an alternate sequel, separate from the continuity of of the 1986, 1990 and 1994 sequels.
Decades later and hundreds of miles away from the original massacre, a young woman named Heather learns that she has inherited a Texas estate from a grandmother she never knew she had. After embarking on a road trip with friends to uncover her roots, she finds she is the sole owner of a lavish, isolated Victorian mansion. But her newfound wealth comes at a price as she stumbles upon a horror that awaits her in the mansion’s dank cellars…
Praised by the series original director and co-writer Tobe Hooper, Texas Chainsaw 3D looks to be the sequel that those disappointed with the series’ 1986 veer into black comedy have been asking for for so long. No matter what flavour of Texas Chainsaw Massacre you like, everyone can rejoice that Leatherface – for our money the real masked king of horror – is back and raring to go.
