How cool are these fab little pieces of jewelry made from damaged, distressed old comics. Sue Smith sells these nifty items via her Etsy store Comic Salvage: “My husband is an illustrator and has been collecting comic books since he was a kid, so I’m surrounded by them. We love collecting anything vintage, especially toys and books from our childhood. We are often scouting out garage sales and flea markets for some good finds. I’ve always noticed the excessive amounts of distressed comic books that were out there. A lot of them are missing covers or ripped and not worth much. I loved the idea of recycling them into little pieces of history that you can wear!” (link via BoingBoing, Sue’s quote comes from interview in Geek Mom)

How fabulous is this? Forget the action figures or even the mighty 20 inch remote control Daleks – what we’ve always wanted is a Dalek we could get inside and move around in, exterminating everything in sight as we do (some of us of a certain age may dimly recall there were Dalek ‘rides’ you could sit inside in seaside amusement arcades back in the early 70s, although you couldn’t drive them around).

Well now we can. Well, okay, when I say we, I mean the kids can; I’m afraid us bigger kids simply won’t fit! But seriously, how brilliant is this, your own Dalek you can ride around inside? Five year old me would have gone berserk at the thought, I mean I thought my Tom Baker doll with the TARDIS where you spun the light on top to make him ‘dematerialise’ was the greatest thing ever… Available this coming summer in red and blue Dalek designs. The first range from the new series will include Matt Smith’s Doctor and Karen Gillan’s Amy Pond, of course, the Stone Angel, the new-style Dalek and one I think half of us were wanting even as the episode went out (judging by the Twitter chat) – the World War Two ‘Ironside’ Dalek in British Army khaki. I’m clearing more space on my desk….

Very unstable looking, even before being attacked by Ewoks). It’s inspired by the Scout Walkers from Return of the Jedi and even comes with a pretty cool Speeder Bike swing underneath! I suppose no-one would build these today for fear of being sued by litigious parents if their little Stormtroopers fell off, or if the whole thing toppled over (as it looks rather wont to do, to be honest).
