More Darryl Cunningham goodness today, following his posting yesterday of the first glimpse of his Climate Change comic (see here) the first few pages of Uncle Bob and the Martian Invasion have appeared on my favourite webcomics collective, Act-I-Vate. Put on some Jeff Wayne and go read:

My favourite webcomix collective Act-I-Vate (home to some great – and totally free – webstrips from the likes of Dean Haspiel, Dan Goldman, Darryl Cunningham, Molly Crabapple, Simon Fraser, Miss Lasko-Gross and more) has a new series starting today, Seth Kushner’s Culture Pop. Every monday Seth will be posting up “photocomix profiles of real life characters”. I’ll admit I’ve found photo-comics a bit hit and miss in the past; for British readers of a certain age they almost inevitably recall the often dire photo-comics in various teen girl comics and mags of the late 70s and early 80s along with all the cheesiness that infers, but if it’s been accepted by Act-I-Vate I’m going to assume it’s interesting because it’s a comics collective that hasn’t steered me wrong since I started following it and I’ve admired Seth’s photography work that graces NY Graphic and the work he did on the Act-I-Vate Experience animated video. Hitting the shelves tomorrow, the Activate Primer collection from IDW. Regular readers will know that the Activate webcomics collective is one of my very favourite online reads and its terrific to see a print collection of some of their works. This volume includes contributions from some brilliant comics creators; some you’ll know, some will be new to you (and that’s half the fun, discovering interesting work that’s new to us). The Primer contains work from Molly Crabapple, Roger Langridge, Leland Purvis, Nick Bertozzi, Mike Dawson, Simon Fraser, Dean Haspiel and many more in a neat little landscape-format hardback. Perfect if you’re looking for something that little bit different and seeking out examples of different talents you might want to explore further.

Regular readers will know that the Act-i-vate webcomics collective is one of my favourites, home to some excellent creators and its worth reminding anyone who hasn’t had a look recently that there’s an added reason to go and check it out, our own former cartoonist in residence Darryl Cunnigham’s sequel to his Super-Sam and John of the Night series he shared on here with us is now running on Act-i-vate, The Streets of San Diablo.
