As regular readers know we love a bit of culture and many is the time the blog crew have whiled away an evening in the Gentlemen & Ladies Cultured Cartoonist Club discussing the inter-relational nature of post-modernist self referential avant-garde work to the sequential arts medium over our port and cigars. Or something. Culture exists in the land of Somersault too and its refreshing to see its not just a stand and look a the exhibit in reverent silence type of museum, its interactive and very hands-on…

(Somersault this week is (c) Richard Cowdry; if you want to reproduce any part of it you should ask him first; click the pic for the larger version. If you’ve missed any episodes you can find all of the strips archived here)

Karen Rubins, one of the resident artists at the Victoria & Albert, kindly drops us a line to let us know of some upcoming dates; on Sunday 16th Karen will be holding another open studio (from 1 to 4pm) demonstrating how to create comics art to coincide with a visit by Laura Child, creator of the brilliant kid’s picture books (and now TV series) Charlie and Lola, and also on Friday 21st of August along with fellow artist in residence Mary Butcher. You need to book for the talks Laura Child is giving but Karen tells us that you don’t need to book to see her during her open studio gigs; more details on the V&A site (Karen’s V&A page)
