Our colleagues in the NYC Forbidden Planet have been posting up some interesting videos recently, including this one featuring two of their otaku, Emma Larson and Lindsay Johnson, discussing recent manga releases. We’re not re-posting this video just because it has lovely girls in cat ears, there was none of that, it was right out. Really.

Otaku – Manga Day at Southend Libraries

Here’s some fun for all otaku in and around Southend – next Saturday (January 16th) is Manga Day at the Southend Libraries, running from 10am to 4pm, with anime screening, Japanese language basics, art workshops, sushi lessons, a quiz and, of course, cosplaying. BAM manga festival

Paul Fisher, a library development officer in the London borough of Bexley, tells us that a group of otaku – the Bexley Manga Network – are planning a festival of anime and manga for February, with plans for manga workshops, a ninja school, cosplay (of course!), screenings of classic anime at the nearby Cineworld and more. Paul tells me that the young folks in the manga network are organising most of the events themselves, with support from him and colleagues. They haven’t got their website up yet, but they have started a Facebook group you can join for news in the meantime. More when we hear it.
